Early July musings
We’re just ending school holidays here and spent the past few days in Cabarita Beach, a little coastal beach town in the Tweed region. It’s winter here so the weather has been a bit grim - cold and wet but the sun did manage to come out a little! 🌞
It’s been lovely to have a change of scenery, slow down and get out of the city for a few days. Here are a few highlights from the week…
What we ate & drank:
Pipit: We had dinner here one night and this restaurant in Pottsville remains a very special spot to us - we’ve had some wonderful meals here. I know I am biased (it is owned by my sister and brother-in-law) but it is really really good! Beautiful creative cooking with local regional produce.
Mangosteen: We spent some time walking around and exploring Bangalow, such a pretty town. Found this little Japanese gem for lunch. My bowl of udon was absolute comfort in a bowl.
Stunned Mullet: an old family fave - we always get fish and chips here when we visit Caba.
The Farm: a great place to visit with kids. Plus pastries from The Bread Social are always top notch.
Kartel Espresso and Nectar for coffee in Caba. Woods in Bangalow.
Caba Bakehouse for fresh white bread and country bakery vibes.
Yo-Chi: The kids’ new obsession.
Winter beach reads:
I usually have one or two novels on the go depending on my mood and this week it’s some classic John Grisham (the Broker) and Trent Dalton’s Lola in the Mirror.
Two Weeks with the Queen - I loved this book as a kid and we listened to the audiobook on our road trip with the kids. Read by the author himself, definitely recommended.
Binge watching:
Season 3 of The Bear! Tense, heartbreaking, inspiring. Really great viewing plus I am totally fangirling over Olivia Colman.
